Author Mac Barnett and Illustrator Jon Klassen have collaborated on a great retelling of The Three Billy Goats Gruff.
Story synopsis (from Amazon):
Once there was a bridge and a terrible and VERY hungry troll lived underneath it. When the three Billy Goats Gruff decide to clip-clop across the bridge to get to the grassy ridge, the troll is already imagining all the way to prepare a delicious goat dinner. But the troll underestimates those seemingly sweet but oh-so-savvy goats!
To give kids a sense of the lay of the land, Mr. Tim will show a bird's eye view of the Troll's neighborhood.
Mr. Tim will read the Barnett text while acting the story out with his small puppet stage and handcrafted puppets.
Children will be given a collection of paper cut-outs. First they will sort them into sets and then they will order each set of objects from smallest to biggest.
This Story Time is all about balance!
Story synopsis (from Goodreads):
When birds spot a tree and decide to land on its branches, it’s up to the readers to help them find the perfect balance. The concepts of greater than versus less than and heavy versus light are key early math skills for toddlers, making Balance the Birds an important concept book with a hilarious and charming twist.
Children will chant this classic rhyme and act it out with their hands.
Mr. Tim will read the story pausing to invite children to predict what will happen next.
Children will be given a chance to experiment with balance using balance scales and sets of birds.
I'll trade you this for that.
